Calgary-based garage rock duo Miesha and The Spanks have chronicled their ascent through a post-punk modernist lens that speaks of a love affair with early-nineties underground and grunge bands.

A modern singer/guitarist and beloved fixture on the local scene, front-woman Miesha Louie is the integral driving force behind Miesha and The Spanks, supported by her psychic counterpart, percussionist Sean Hamilton (an accomplished singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist in his own right) — intuitively punctuating her soulful choruses with a pounding intensity that simultaneously elevates heart rates and ceiling rafters.

A mixed-Secwépemc artist living in Treaty 7 Territory, Miesha has devoted her entire career to inventing and playing instrumentally brilliant melodies that unleash her passions and full-throated vocal tones. With a serious dose of spirit and charisma in her back pocket Miesha is ready to throw down and make every song resonate with her own jagged signature. Confronting raw subjects and creating a legacy of slaying misogyny, each of the duo’s songs are a sonic statement that masters the noisy by applying a no-nonsense approach.

Their latest album “Unconditional Love In Hi-Fi” was released on Mint Records, and saw great success on Sirius XM stations The Verge and Indigiverse, as well as support from Calgary local FM Rock-Alternative X92.9, CBC Radio 3, and alt-commercial and campus stations across Canada, accumulating chart success on Mediabase, Indigenous Music Countdown, Earshot!, NACC Canada, CBC Radio 3, and Breaking Alt. They were also awarded the 2024 Breakout Artist of the Year at the Western Canadian Music Awards.

Their last release cycle has took them across Canada and into the US, UK, Germany, Sweden, and Poland. Some recent highlights include the Burt Block Party with Billy Talent in Winnipeg MB, CBC’s “Come Toward The Fire” Indigenous showcase at the Chan Centre in Vancouver with Black Belt Eagle Scout and Zoon, support to Bif Naked on her Alberta club tour dates, and internationally at Different Sounds Festival in Poland as part of Keychange.

With all of this poetic leather-jacket wickedness, comparisons are inevitable; Kim Gordon; PJ Harvey, Joan Jett, Melissa Auf der Maur, Sleater-Kinney, St. Vincent – you get the idea – it’s all expected, but never taken for granted. Naturally gifted with a knack for relentlessly channeling the garage rock greats of yore, Miesha and The Spanks prefer to be perfectly frank. They don’t shy away from the darkness. Armed with a dark sense of humour and a serious howl. Nothing is beyond their grasp.
