  • David Weir (Sound Roots / Manchester Folk Festival)

    David Weir is the Marketing and Communications Officer at Sound Roots, a registered charity supporting grassroots music careers in folk and beyond.

    Sound Roots organises the annual music showcase English Folk Expo, the UK’s largest folk music conference, as well as Manchester Folk Festival, England’s leading multi-venue urban folk event, which runs alongside it.

    David manages Sound Roots Connect, a new website and learning platform designed to support those working within the independent UK music industry by fostering knowledge sharing, skill development and advertising career opportunities.

    In addition to his work at Sound Roots, David organises regular festivals in Chester. His North West-based music promotion company, Choir of Outsiders, which specialises in experimental folk events, recently received funding from PRS Foundation’s Early Career Promoters Fund to support the third edition of Northgate Folk Festival (23.8.25).

    His writing has appeared in Clash Music, Caught by the River and KLOF Magazine.
