Erica Choong joined the British Council Malaysia as their Arts Manager in 2020. Graduating from University of Melbourne, she holds a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, majoring in Marketing and Management. Her interests in social impact led her to a 6-year tenure with a local foundation that supports the arts, sports and environmental ecosystem in Malaysia, where she worked with storytellers, humanitarians, conservationists and Olympians, alongside their teams, to empower communities.
In her time with the British Council, Erica has contributed her project, grant and partnership management skills to British Council Malaysia’s Arts and Culture work on creative hubs, crafts, and diversity programmes, across multiple artforms, stakeholders, and outcomes. Her and her team are currently working to create spaces and opportunities for connections, collaborations, and knowledge exchanges between the UK and Malaysia, that focuses on cultural practices, traditional knowledge, coloniality, inclusion, diversity, and climate change. Her portfolio has recently been expanded to the ASEAN region, in supporting the British Council ASEAN-UK Advancing Creative Economy Music Delegation programme.
