  • Jeff Thompson (Un-Convention)

Jeff is the co-founder of Manchester’s Un-Convention, an annual music industry conference and showcase that has brought together thousands of artists and music professionals over the course of the last 18 years. The events also take place nationally and internationally, and to date there have been 115 Un-Conventions on 5 continents. This has enabled him to work in a broad range of contexts, both in the UK, as well as around the world in countries such as Columbia, Brazil, The Netherlands, Poland, Liberia, France, Spain and Australia, and with everyone from bedroom producers and DIY labels to multi-million selling artists and major festivals and corporations.

As well as Un-Convention, Jeff has run independent record labels and booked artists for festival stages. He has helped to establish several music co-operatives in Africa, a Regional Music Scene Network, and a live music touring model which enables artists in 85 towns and cities across the UK to play to new audiences. He was a founding member of the JUMP European-wide talent development project and is currently a member of the Great Manchester Music Commission where he has led on research into music and health and delivered music export initiatives. Most recently Jeff has established the Manchester Music Scene Social, a quarterly networking event which brings together hundreds of people working in the sector from across the city region.
