Mark Lippmann is the founder of Scruff of the Neck, the Manchester-born independent music company he has built from the ground up since 2009. Starting out promoting pub gigs while at university, his self-made approach has grown Scruff of the Neck into a multi-faceted group spanning live promotions, an award-winning record label, publishing and artist/producer management.
In 2025, Mark was appointed to the board of the Association of Independent Music (AIM), selected as a BRIT Awards voter, and served as one of five UK jurors for the Eurovision Song Contest. Scruff of the Neck Records is an AIM Award winner for Best Small Label, with over 50,000 physical sales to date, while the live arm promotes concerts, tours and major programmes including Winter Gardens Blackpool.
Mark is a regular speaker at leading international conferences and festivals including Eurosonic, Reeperbahn Festival, Tallinn Music Week and Ireland Music Week, and has delivered showcases at The Great Escape, SXSW Austin and Eurosonic. His work is defined by a clear ethos of artist development, integrity and long-term sustainability within the independent music sector.
