Ruth Cocks is the Director of British Council Wales, where she aligns international engagement with the Welsh Government’s ambitions in culture, education, and the arts. A proud Welshwoman, she is dedicated to creating global opportunities and strengthening Wales’ international ties.
Ruth has extensive experience in public diplomacy and cultural relations from senior postings in Afghanistan, East Asia, and Egypt. She has partnered with the MoD, FCDO, and the European Union on major initiatives. Her achievements include delivering skills programmes in Afghanistan, managing governance projects across East Asia, and leading the British Council’s youth-focused climate contributions at COP27 in Egypt.
With a degree in Modern Foreign Languages from the University of Nottingham, Ruth began her career at the European Parliament and the University of Nantes. She now leverages her global expertise to advocate for Wales on the world stage.
