  • Wairehu Grant (Half/Time, Aotearoa)

Wairehu Grant (Ngāti Maniapoto) is a musician, community event organiser and audio technician from Aotearoa (New Zealand). He is the vocalist and guitarist of the Maōri punk act Half/Time, who is returning to Cymru for their second run of FOCUS Wales alongside a wider UK tour throughout May. During his time as a postgraduate researcher at Te Whare Wānanga o Waikato (The University of Waikato) he conducted research addressing the idealogical crossovers between punk culture and te ao Māori (the Māori world/worldview). During this period, he and fellow members of Half/Time took part in a intercultural collaboration with researchers at Prifysgol Caerdydd and the Welsh Language school for a project titled “Prosiect Pūtahitanga” which addressed (among other things) the role that music and creativity plays in movements of language reclamation, transmission and decolonisation.
