Michael first began writing poetry when he worked as a young Miner in the Wrexham and North Staffs Coalfields. Michael would write about life underground as well as his own experiences during the 1984/85 strike. During the 1990’s he performed at After Dinner Evenings became popular amongst sports fans. Michael has previously worked alongside Joey Jones, Mickey Thomas, Ian Rush, Gordon Banks, Kevin Ratcliffe, Ron Atkinson and Matt le Tissier and performed on stage with the infamous Gangster ‘Mad’ Frankie Frazer, which ended in a near riot!
Towards the end of 1990s, Michael and some close friends set-up a comedy band ‘The Declan Swans’ . The Swans had early successes appearing on C4’s ‘The Big Breakfast’ and were frequently played on National Radio. The Swans featured on series 1 and 2 of Disney+’s Welcome to Wrexham and became popular with fans across the globe, including Usa, Canada and Australia.
The band have performed in the US and played at Trafalgar Square as part of Canada Day 2024.
