Dill the Giant is a first-generation Jamaican-Canadian rapper from Winnipeg, known for his unfiltered delivery, warm analog textures, and lyrical focus on fatherhood, roots, and identity. A founding member of hip-hop trio 3PEAT, Dill has toured across Europe and earned nominations for Hip Hop Artist of the Year both as a soloist and with the group. His 2021 solo project Weed Man Son was long-listed for the Polaris Prize.
Dill’s latest release, Ali Wan Kenobi Meets Mace Win Dill, is a collaborative mixtape with Winnipeg producer Ali Wan Kenobi, entirely created on Ali’s Roland SP-404. Forgoing traditional structure in favor of sonic exploration, the project plays like a heady cassette passed between friends—looped, raw, and alive with dusty soul chops and boom-bap grit. Ali becomes a kind of sonic guide, flipping samples with cinematic precision, while Dill floats through each track with vivid bars and off-the-cuff insight.
More than just a beat tape or rap record, this is a creative journey through sound, held together by trust, repetition, and smoke-hazed intention. The result is a fearless and freeform work that blends heritage and experimentation in equal measure.
