Scrounge is Lucy and Luke: guitar, drums, mic. Since meeting at Goldsmiths university in the middle of the last decade, they’ve been trying to express how it feels to be a young person living in a brutal, fast-changing city, constantly balancing the pressures of trying to stay healthy, pay the bills and make art as part of a genuinely inclusive underground scene, all through the medium of their intense, genre-fluid music.
They’ve been DIY from day one: to start Scrounge, they learned and relearned new instruments, new methods and approaches, throwing parties and putting on shows in South London, organically building a community around the band and their mates. They’ve toured the UK and Europe (Italy, Germany, the Netherlands and more) extensively as well as making appearances in the US (SXSW, New Colossus Festival NYC), winning fans show-by-show; following several well-received singles and EPs, in 2022 they released their debut minialbum Sugar, Daddy to critical acclaim (see below); most importantly, they continue to be fixtures of their local DIY music and politics scenes, heavily engaged in community initiatives, fundraisers and solidarity events.
Their new album Almost Like You Could, out via Ba Da Bing (Cassandra Jenkins, Sharon Van Etten, Beirut) in April 2025, is a bold step up from the frantic art-punk of Sugar, Daddy, with novel elements of post-rock and industrial music fused with the duo’s trademark intensity and the most directly melodic songwriting of their career so far. This record takes the often oppressive weight of the modern world, reshapes it, remakes it and proves it can be the catalyst for something better, made by and for our communities. Almost Like You Could is a record about love, solidarity and radical possibility in the face of injustice.
